We are the sum of our reactions and responses to the people around us, or so I recently heard it said. Often it is easy to take for granted the ways that we are supported, held up by those who love us. Or how the earth rises to meet our feet and the air rushes into our being. As I reflect upon these truths, I am filled with gratitude.
Over the weekend we travelled to Mornington and unloaded all of our belongings, groceries and craziness into a house with the rest of my family. It was surprisingly relaxing – particularly compared with our most recent trip away as a family to Sorrento – and I so enjoyed watching the kids form better relationships with their aunties and uncles who they don’t get to see that often. Dave and I even got the chance to steal away for a date night (out of the house – who knew such outings even existed!?) and explored the best of the Mornington night scene…. whilst being home at a completely godly hour of course… after all, it isn’t only Cinderella who gets penalised for being out past the stroke of midnight… just ask any family with small children.
I’ll write more about the trip soon, but in the meantime here is a brief poetic glimpse of some of some of the moments.
//A tangle of
words sent out
finding haven
in interested
ears
…
Feeling the
earth firm
beneath trembling
fingers
…
Rooms
opening to
space shared and
harvested
…
A musical table
becoming
canvas for creativity
…
The wordless dance
of arms reaching
to create a
bountiful feast
…
Grains giving
yet cupping beneath
little feet
Lapping curves
meeting the
lonely shore

Love your poem. Sounds like you had a well deserved and needed trip. I’m in the 6 spot this week.
I forget sometimes how rejuvenating trips away can be,… even if you only have to travel an hour or so away for them!
