A Muted Call

There is a vase of leek bulb flowers sitting on our kitchen table right now. Their muted white and purple hues give me pleasure every time I glance over at them. The delicate buds shiver as I place my tea cup carefully back down on the vintage coaster and their slightly pungent scent permeates the air.

I’m not sure if they were intended for this purpose – to give satisfaction and joy to a roving eye, but the thrill of discovering their beauty makes me feel as if I have stumbled upon a bound secret – a leathered, spidery page from an old recipe book.

Creativity bursts into life within us. It lingers, waiting, watching for us to pay attention. ‘See that?‘ It pleads – softly, patiently, faintly. I settle my busy hands, gaze with reverence, and follow.
