Five photographs are pinned to the door of the refrigerator.
We pass, in a whirlwind.
“Get into the car! Put on your shoes!”
The door opens and bangs shut.
Ingredients laid out for snacks, meals.
Milk sloshed into cups for eager waiting hands.
I reach into the cupboard above for an elixir.
Easing a fever, erasing a cold.
“Drink it up, every last drop.”
Grubby fingerprints mark the door. They creep higher.
“What are you doing in there? Get out of the fridge!”
Precious works of art, letters slowly practiced as the message appears.
‘DIS IS FOR MAM’.
“To make you feel better”, he says.
Brown eyes looking earnestly into mine.
When sleeping bodies are tucked into bed, we wistfully linger.
“Just look at those chubby cheeks. Those pudgy fingers….”
How is it that they grow before our very eyes
And we do not see?

Hello lovely one in Australia! Hope you’re enjoying a good night’s rest at this moment and your wee ones are feeling better. Enjoyed the party with you last night. FMF#13 on the 13th – but it’s the 14th where you are!!!
Thanks Susan! Was a great party, so glad I got to make it 🙂 About to head off for another night, hoping this one will be easier… Thanks for your well wishes 🙂
Emma, what a lovely post. So descriptive. I’m in the #4 spot this week.
Thanks Tara 🙂 Just visited yours! Great post 🙂
You’re seeing, dear friend. You’re seeing exactly what you need to see. Hoping the sickness is abating and the ick is de-ickifying. P.S. what filter do you use on your photos? I love it.
It’s funny that the times I ‘see’ most are the times my fingers are flying over the keys… rather than in the actual moment! Or in the captured screen of a photograph, rather than the chaotic reality that it was made out of… Thanks for your kind thoughts about our sick house- it is getting gradually better, despite an after hours call out to the doctor last night 🙁 I use the ‘Velvia’ filter in the Camera360 app on my Android phone – it has become my default now 🙂
So true. So very true. We don’t stop and take notice enough. Thank you for reminding us to slow and look. Nice to “meet” someone from DownUnder via Five Minute Friday. I’m a kiwi living in the Netherlands.
What a great combination! Really enjoying being part of #fmfparty and meeting fellow writers 🙂 Thanks for your kind words!
Beautiful description. Ordinary beauty is the best.
Get well soon!
Thanks Katha! Appreciate your kind thoughts 🙂
Emma,
how lovely that you also have three in a row! 🙂 And yes, it’s hard to speak of grow and not have it be the children. My first photo, I hardly remember when they were that size as their littlest sister was so new. (And the middle one was two.)
Thank you ever so much for visiting and commenting!
I hope to remember as much as I can. I have a lot of handprint and footprint art in my “toy room” on the walls to help remember the growing.
Love,
Tammy

Fun to be neighbors with you! I’ve always wanted to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef. Someday…
Just realised I hadn’t replied to this yet, sorry! Love your way of remembering – so beautiful. You should definitely come down and visit one day – there are so many amazing sights and places to see!
