Evolution

At first it lingers

frustration brewing

fears sparked

Movements that don’t

flow, glide, settle

Breathing ragged

emotions heightened

wistful glances to the

past

It burns a hole

through which a

whole can emerge

Glances of superiority

become flashes of

understanding, empathy, relief

The pedestal

slowly lowering

for all the struggling

striving, battered ones

Of which we are now

the first to lift our

weary hands

Is it a curse or a gift?

A bomb or bouquet?

Perhaps it is

the only way

we evolve.

  1. Beautiful. I am reminded of times when it was only after I had gone through a particular life experience, that I realized how little I truly had known of that experience when I previously dished out advice to others walking through it. Humbling indeed. 🙂

    1. Thanks Esther – yes, I know what you mean and it is hard to avoid that experience, particularly when you feel like you are doing what you think is best for that person… how differently it feels on the other side though 🙁

  2. I’m so glad you’re struggling together. Sounds like there’s been some major bumps and bruises this week. You will come back ’round to snuggles and words and bouquets. Sure, you’ve got some bombs: own them and throw them back behind enemy lines.
