It’s messy in the middle.
Toys strewn, boxes scattered of
their innards, doors opening
then easing shut.
I take a breath, letting it out
slowly.
…
I look down at my
ever expanding middle –
watching the tiny shark fin
track its way
beneath the surface.
I take a breath, letting it out
expectantly.
…
Conversations stop in the
middle.
Trails of thought skip and leap,
caught between desires
at the same time.
I take a breath, letting it out
wistfully.
…
Perhaps this perpetual motion
finds us at our most real –
whispering of the secret
buried in plain sight.
For even our beginnings were
first revealed
in the sharp inhalation
of delight.

I always love your poetry friend. This poem is beautiful and so delightful! 🙂 I’m over in the 14 spot this week.
That is so kind, Tara 🙂 Looking forward to reading your post for the week!
You really caught the ambience of the middle, Emma. Loved this!
And I can just see another David Lee Roth in that picture.
#2 at FMF this week.

I must say I had to google David Lee Roth, but that made me laugh! Grand heights for the boys to aspire to 😀
What beautiful words! Thank you.
Thanks Charlie – appreciate you stopping by 🙂
Emma,
oh your words are beautiful! And, so appropriate for a busy mom of two with a third one increasingly vying for attention, even from within! 🙂 Congratulations on this expanding family, and for capturing such beauty in a brief writing. You really spoke with depth.
Love,
Tammy
Thanks so much Tammy! I have missed reading the FMF posts over the holidays – looking forward to reading yours!
Emma,
I looked forward to reading your post this week. Your poetry is so beautiful and I am awed that your mind flows such eloquence in 5 minutes. Truly a gift! As usual, this post encompasses the prompt perfectly. Congratulations on your expanding middle!
Sometimes I find it quicker to write poetry because it seems to tap into the part of my brain that doesn’t overthink things as much! :p Appreciate you stopping by! xx
What a great post, your poetry is wonderful!
Congratulations on your expanding family, that is great news!
Thanks so much, Katha 🙂 We are very excited but also knuckling down for a pretty chaotic year, I suspect!
I love the shark fin!
